It’s all over the fashion news today…Louis Vuitton has appointed a new Designer and Marc Jacobs is out and Nicolas Ghesquière is in. For more info read this Vogue article by Sarah Mower!
The speculation over the biggest fashion upheaval of the year is finally over: Nicolas Ghesquière has been named as the new artistic director of women's collections at Louis Vuitton, succeeding Marc Jacobs.
That’s great news. Fashion as a whole has felt curiously lopsided since Ghesquière left Balenciaga in 2012—a sensation almost like losing an engine, since he’s piloted such a huge number of trends over the past decade. Just one example: Why did we find ourselves suddenly wearing extreme platforms from 2006 onwards—and why have some women never come down from them? It was Ghesquière in his fall 2006 show—a turning point where he looked into the Balenciaga archive, but also sent footwear to such an extreme high many critics cried, “Impossible!” How wrong could they be? The fact that we can look at the pictures now and wonder what all the fuss was about is the proof of just how thoroughly Ghesquière’s madly clumpy stroke of genius became so absorbed into our normality.
My favorite and some iconic collections by the newly appointed designer from over the years…
